Makani Cambridge CIC – where self-actualisation happens in community
Makani (meaning “my place” in Arabic) is a community-rooted, values-led organisation based in Cambridge with a national reach. We specialise in co-designed, power-aware approaches that centre collective care, justice, and joy.
Our work supports individuals and communities from across racialised and marginalised backgrounds to heal, thrive, and lead. Through our events, leadership programmes, and participatory research, we hold space for self-actualisation that does not rely on individualism, but instead emerges through connection, storytelling, and mutual support.
At Makani Cambridge, we believe change begins in community. We challenge systems of oppression while creating life-affirming spaces where people feel seen, valued, and safe. Whether we’re dancing Dabkeh, co-producing knowledge with local leaders, supporting organisations on equity journeys, or mentoring emerging changemakers—we’re building towards a world where everyone has a place, a voice, and the power to shape what comes next.
Our home is Cambridge, but our work and relationships extend far beyond. We collaborate with grassroots organisers and national institutions across the UK who share our vision for transformational justice.
